Mount Greylock's Miller Picks up Narrow Win in Classic Race

BUCKLAND, Mass. -- Mount Greylock’s Jakin Miller outsprinted three competitors to earn a narrow win in Saturday’s Berkshire County High School Nordic League classic race at Mohawk Trail Regional.

 

Miller finished in 18 minutes, 15 seconds, one second ahead of the runner-up, Northfield Mount Hermon’s Adam Carlisle. Miller’s teammate Col McDermott (18:17) and Lenx’s Herkus Rudszinskas (18:18) were hot on Carlisle’s heels in third and fourth, respectively.

 

In fifth place was Hoosac Valley’s Corben Craig, who finished in 20:06.

 

Mount Greylock also placed John Skavlem and Foster Savitsky in the top 10 to finish with 20 team points and edge Lenox.

 

Mount Greylock’s girls took the top two spots and put four racers in the top seven led by winner Brandi Gill, who crossed the finish line in 22:13, seven seconds ahead of teammate Jacqueline Wells (22:20).

 

Mohawk Trail’s Erik Looman was third in 22:23 to help her team finish third behind the Mounties and Lenox Millionaires.

 

Lenox’s girls were led by Sola Herndon-Schmidt, who placed sixth in 24:03.

 

Rounding out the scoring for the first-place Mounties were Lainey Gill in fourth and Elizabeth Dupras in seventh.
