Mount Greylock Girls Sweep Top of Podium at Prospect

WOODFORD, Vt. -- Jacqueline Wells led a Mount Greylock sweep of the top four positions in the Berkshire County Nordic Ski League race on Saturday at Prospect.

 

Wells finished in 19 minutes, 33 seconds, edging teammate Brandi Gill (19:34) for first place.

 

Elizabeth Dupras and Margo Smith came in third and fourth, respectively for the Mounties, who finished with 10 points, well ahead of runner up Lenox. The Millionaires finished with 40 points to place second among the seven girls teams competing.

 

In the boys race, Lenox's Herkus Rudzinskas won his second individual title of the winter, finishing in 16:38, 22 seconds ahead of Mount Greylock's Jakin Miller.

 

Miller and the Mounties took the next six spots, though, as Mount Greylock finished with 14 points, 22 ahead of Lenox.

 

All 10 schools in the Berkshire League fielded a boys team in Saturday's race, which was moved to Vermont for the third time this season without any skiable terrain "south of the border."

 

Rounding out the scoring for the Mount Greylock boys were Col McDermott, Corban Miller and Gabe Gerry in third through fifth.

 

wahcoah's boys finished third in the 10-team field behind a 15th-place finish by Shea McIlquham (20:41).

 

Hoosac Valley's Justin Levesque finished just ahead of him in 12th place in 19:18. Thomas Rabasco led Taconic, placing 41st in 23:29.

 

The top three girls teams in points mirrored the boys standings.

 

Lenox was second and had the first non-Mountie across the finish line in Sola Herndon-Schmidt, who clocked a time of 21:37.

 

Wahconah's Gabby Orlando was just behind her in sixth place, finishing in 21:43 to help her team finish third.

 

Hoosac Valley's Mia Gale cracked the top 20 with a time of 23:36.And Taconic was led by Megan Francoeur, who placed 33rd overall in 26:47.

 

The league is scheduled to ski next Saturday at Mount Greylock, conditions permitting.
