Miller Dominant as Mount Greylock Boys, Girls Sweep at Prospect

WOODFORD, Vt. -- Mount Greylock’s Jakin Miller won to lead a 1-2-3 Mounties sweep of the top three spots in Saturday’s cross country race at Prospect Mountain.

 

Miller finished 43 seconds ahead of the field, crossing the finish line in 15 minutes, 41 seconds.

His teammate, Owen Tucker-Smith finished second in 16:24. Col McDermott finished the podium sweep for Mount Greylock with a time of 16:46.

 

In the girls race, Mohawk Trail’s Erika Looman finished first, skiing out of the first wave and finishing in 19:12, 15 seconds ahead of fellow first-wave starter Brandi Gill of Mount Greylock and 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Elizabeth Dupras of Mount Greylock, who started out of the sixth wave.

 

The Mounties took places two through eight to easily win the team title. Gill was followed by Margo Smith in fourth, Amelia Murphy in fifth, Miriam Bakija in sixth, Lainey Gill in seventh and Hazel Scullin in eighth.

 

Lenox, which finished with 44 points, 30 points behind Mount Greylock, was led by Mary Elliot, who placed ninth in 20:37.

 

In the boys race, Mount Greylock placed seven in the top 10 to earn 11 points, 32 points ahead of runner-up Lenox.

 

Hoosac Valley’s Corben Craig placed fourth in 16:49. Lenox’s Herkus Rudzinskas was sixth in 17:05.

 

Saturday’s race was moved to Prospect Mountain due to unskiable conditions at the original site, Wahconah High.
