Wahconah' Dos Santos Wins Medal; Hoosac Wins Match
DALTON, Mass. -- Wahconah sophomore Nathan dos Santos Wednesday carded a 2-over-par round of 37 on the front nine at Wahconah Country Club to lead his team in a 168-195 loss to Hoosac Valley.
Dos Santos’ round was highlighted by a birdie on the 500-yard, par-5 seventh hole as he secured medalist honors in the season opener.
Hoosac Valley (2-0) countered with a balanced attack that saw four players -- Derek Alibozek, Hayden Grimes, Luc Trombley and Colby Rougeau each card a 42.
“Hoosac Valley's performance was very impressive, especially to have four 42s on the road with tough rain conditions,” Wahconah coach Pete Terpak said. “Our team has a lot of work to do and a long season ahead, but it is only the beginning of the season."
Also scoring for Wahconah (0-1) were Daniel Wilson (50), Caden Frazer (53) and Isaac Anello (55).
“Our team is in a developmental stage and we have a lot of great, new and dedicated faces with a lot of potential,” Wahconah general manager Jonathan dos Santos said. “I feel like everyone had control of their games, we just didn't manage score well with the conditions.
“But it is one out of 14, and we're on to Taconic this Friday. I couldn't be more excited to be contributing as not only a manager but as an instructor and mentor to these young guys as well. Watching these guys get better day to day and eventually match to match - I just couldn't be more excited.”
Wahconah travels to Taconic on Friday.
