Wahconah Hockey Team Seeded Third in Western Mass

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Wahconah hockey team will open the Western Massachusetts Division 3A tournament on Tuesday at the Olympia Ice Center as the No. 3 seed in a six-team field.

Wahconah (14-4-1) will face sixth-seeded St. Mary (10-9-1) of Westfield at 6 p.m. for the right to face second-seeded Chicopee Comp in Saturday’s 5:30 semifinal.

Amherst held down the top seed in the field. The Hurricanes await the winner of Tuesday’s late quarter-final between Chicopee and Belchertown.

Wahconah did not face St. Mary in the regular season. The Saints do own three wins over Berkshire County competition: two against Taconic and one over Mount Everett.

The Division 3 tournament will be a four-team affair, with top-seeded Longmeadow playing Westfield and No. 2 Minnechaug and No. 3 East Longmeadow facing off in the semifinals on Thursday at Olympia.
