Wahconah Tops Mount Everett in Tournament Final
GREENFIELD, Mass. -- Vinnie Orlando and Mike Bloom each scored twice to lead the Wahconah hockey team to a 6-2 win over Mount Everett on Saturday in the championship game of the Greenfield tournament.
Bloom and Nick Lillie scored first period goals to give Wahconah a 2-0 lead. Orlandi -- with assists from Nate Lapine and Bloom -- pushed that lead to 3-0 in the first minute of the second period.
Jake Corcoran scored an unassistd goal for the Eagles (1-1) to make it 3-1.
But Hoby MacWhinnie and Logan Rumbolt set up Mike Moreno for a late second-period goal that sent Wahconah (3-0) to the locker room with a 4-1 lead.
In the third, Corcoran and Carly Duval assisted on a Max Joyner goal to get Everett within two. But Orlandi and Bloom added a goal apiece to ice the game.
Nico Romano made 15 saves to earn the win in net. Jonah Swotes stopped 44 shots in the loss.
Mount Everett is on the road to face the Shepaug School on Monday. After playing three games in four days, Wahconah gets some rest before travelling to Connecticut to face Tri-Town on Dec. 30.
