Wahconah, New Lebanon Swimmers Battle to a Tie

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. – New Lebanon’s second 400-yard freestyle relay quartet edged Wahconah by fewer than four seconds for third place in the day’s final event to earn a 47-47 tie in a co-ed meet between the Berkshire County League foes.

 

Lance Schroder and George Lamphere-Webster each won a pair of events for the Tigers.

 

Victoria Lattizzori won the 100 backstroke for Wahconah, which also took first place in the 200 free relay.

 

Wahconah had a 44-40 lead going into the day’s final event, the 4-by-100 free relay.

 

Schroder and Lamphere-Webster teamed with Jordan Sotek and Grace Kalisz to take first place and briefly give their team six points and a 46-44 lead. Wahconah took that lead back seconds later with three points for its relay’s second-place finish.

 

That meant the meet was decided by the next quartet to touch, and the hosts were fast enough to earn the point for third place and a tie on the day.
