PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Devin Lampron scored a pair of goals, and Antonio Scalise stopped 24 shots to lead the Wahconah hockey team to a 2-0 win over Easthampton at the Boys and Girls Club.

The victory marked Wahconah’s first win of the year and avenged a 5-3 loss to the Eagles in late December.

It also gives the team some momentum going into a busy stretch of five games in nine days that continues Saturday at Chicopee.

The key on Friday was Scalise, who stopped 10 shots in the third period alone and helped Wahconah fend off nearly two minutes of a 6-on-5 attack as Easthampton desperately tried to get on the scoreboard.

“Antonio was spectacular in goal tonight,” Wahconah coach Matt Risley said. “He was on his game. He’s going to be tough to beat.

“He had the will to see that shutout to the end, and we sweated every second of it.”

It was a scoreless game after 15 minutes, but it did not take long for Lampron to get the game winner in the second.

He took a pass from Roshan Warriar and scored on a breakaway about three minutes into the second for a 4-on-4 goal to make it 1-0.

Lampron lit the lamp again at the start of the third, this time scoring unassisted on another breakaway to give Wahconah a little cushion.

That was all the offense allowed by Easthampton’s Paige Galpin, who stopped 25 shots and frustrated a Wahconah power play that ended the night 0-for-8.

“She’s a great goaltender,” Risley said. “She played fantastic out there. We got pucks to the net, but she played great, so hats off to her.

“That’s a good team that we beat over there. We’re pretty evenly matched, and tonight we came out on top.”

Wahconah (1-4-) will look to build on that momentum on Saturday afternoon when it goes to Smead Arena to take on Chicopee.
