Prett, Kunzmann, Strout, Archambault Win at Berkshire County Indivduals
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Wahconah's Brock Prett, Jacob Kunzmann, Evan Strout and Zach Archambault each picked up victories Friday night at the virtual Berkshire County Individuals swim meet.
Just four of the league's usual eight teams were able to compete this winter due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And although Massachusetts' winter sports season continues this week, Friday's meet marked the finale for the three New York schools fielding teams.
"The meet was held virtually at each team's pools," New Lebanon-Berlin coach Tim Christiansen said. "It has been a short and and strange season this year but the athletes made the most of it and ended the year on a good note."
Wahconah's Kunzmann was a double winner on Friday, taking first in the 200-yard indvidual medley in 2 minutes, 21.28 seconds, and the 100 backstroke in 1:03.38. His 100 back time hit the qualifying mark for the Western Massachusetts tournament.
Prett won the 200 freestyle (3:58.07), and Strout won the 100 butterfly (1:357.97).
Archambault won the 100 breaststroke in a personal record time of 1:20.34 and hit a PR in finishing second in the 200 IM (2:43.69).
In the girls meet, Wahconah's Sarah Curti finished second in the 500 free (7:15.62) and Sarah Kunzmann was second in the 100 backstroke (1:19.95). They also teamed up with Alex Bills and Sheffield Drewry to place second in the 200 medley relay (2:30.78).
New Lebanon's Alex Sotek won the 50 free (26.17) and 100 free (58.52), both in qualifying times for the New York State Section II meet.
