ADAMS, Mass. -- Derek Alibozek carded a 2-over 36 Wednesday to lead the Hoosac Valley golf team to a 40-stroke win over rival Drury at Forest Park Country Club.

Alibozek finished eight strokes ahead of the field as the Hurricanes improved to 3-0 to start the season.

“Mostly my drives were pretty straight, finally,” Alibozek said. :I haven't hit a straight drive in a while. My drives really helped me out and gave me that confidence boost to chip on and probably one- or two-putt.

“That helped me out a lot.”

All five of Alibozek’s teammates backed up his score with rounds of between 44 and 46. Luc Trombley carded a 44. Henry Sniezek, Hayden Grimes and Corben Craig carded 45s, and Colby Rougeau finished at 46 as Hoosac valley earned a 170-210 win.

Drury was led by Seth Dupee, who birdied the 277-yard, par-4 ninth to cap a round of 49.

David Barton and Jonathan Cornell finished at 52 and 54, respectively, and Connor Kelly scored with a 55 for Drury.

Alibozek credited Hoosac Valley coach Jay Sniezek with helping him straighten out his game.

“The last two or three matches, my drives haven't been straight,” he said. “Now, I'm just starting to get the feel of it. My coach is helping me out with my drives, and he's helping me out in practice chip and putt and all that good stuff.”

Monday marked the first time the Hurricanes have had the medalist this fall. But that is the only thing the deep and balanced Hoosac Valley squad has not won.

“We have a lot of good young guys out there,” said Alibozek, a junior. “And we're not missing anyone next year, so we should be pretty good next year. Our guys are shooting low 40s, mid 40s, and I'm consistently shooting low 40s, high 30s, so we should be pretty good for a couple of years.”
