Hoosac Valley Girls Win Three Dual Meets

DALTON, Mass. – With a sweep of the throwing events, the Hoosac Valley girls track and field team earned three dual meet wins on Monday at Wahconah Regional High School.

 

The meet included a record-setting performance from one Monument Mountain athlete and a four-win day from another.

 

It also included a tie in one of eight duals contested among four teams in attendance.

 

Hoosac Valley’s girls did not have to worry about a stalemate after Hanna Shea, Taylor Garabedian and Abby Scialabba took first in the shot put, discus and javelin, respectively.

 

PIttsfield’s Dezerea Powell swept the 100 and 200 and won the long jump. Wahconah’s Kathyn Perrone swept the 100 and 400 hurdles.

 

Monument Mountain’s Lily Haskins-Vaughan won just one event, but in doing so, she tied the county mark in the high jump set earlier this season, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

 

In the boys meet, the Spartans’ Oliver Berkowitz was a quadruple winner, taking first in the 100 and 200 on the track and the long jump and triple jump in the field. Monument Mountain also got a pair of wins from Everett Pacheco in the 800 and 1600.

 

They helped the Spartans tie Hoosac Valley in their dual meet, 56-56.

 

Pittsfield’s boys won two duals, beating Hoosac Valley and Monument Mountain.

 

The Generals’ Owen Klatka won the high jump and placed third in both the long jump and triple jump.

 

Wahconah’s Payton Shippee won the discus and javelin to help his team earn a dual meet win over Hoosac Valley.
