Lenox Girls, Boys Win Western Mass Titles
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Lenox girls and boys cross country teams each earned a Western Massachusetts Class B team championship on Saturday at Stanley Park.
Each beat county rival Mount Greylock to do so.
The girls claimed their crown by the narrowest of margins.
Lenox’s Elyssa Scrimo edged the Mounties’ Paige Tudor by .9 seconds to place 10th in the 149-girl field.
That one point swing in the team scoring proved crucial as Lenox finished with 66 points to the Mounties’ 68 to take home first place.
Lenox was led by Alice Culver, who placed first overall in the Class B race with a time of 19 minutes, 9.97 seconds. She finished more than a minute ahead of runner-up Kami Wlodyka of Belchertown (20;14.71).
Lenox also got scores from Lila Kousch, Gianna Love and Genevieve Collins.
Mount Greylock was led by Adriana Carasone, who placed seventh in the field with a time of 20:53.86.
The boys Class B race was not as tight.
Lenox finished with 78 points to put some distance between itself and Mount Greylock (94).
The Millionaires’ Benjamin Harwood was the top boy from the county as well, finishing third in 16:30.86.
Mount Greylock’s Oliver Swabey was right behind him, crossing the line in 16:34.79 to place fourth in the 168-boy field.
The next boy across the line was Monument Mountain’s Everett Pacheco, who placed fifth to pace the Spartans to a 12th-place team finish.
Wahconah’s boys placed sixth in the team standings behind Noah Wesley, who placed 10th.
Taconic just missed the top 10, finishing in 11th. Noah Krantz led the Thunder with a 35th-place finish. Pittsfield’s boys placed 13th behind Seth Aitken, who was 20th in the field.
Mount Everett’s Ben Vella placed 35th to lead the Eagles to 16th place.
The McCann Tech boys were 21st. Brandon Miller led the Hornets with a 28th-place showing.
The McCann Tech girls were one of five Berkshire County teams in the top 10 on Saturday.
Camryn Moran placed 39th as an individual to lead the Hornets to a 10th-place team finish.
Berkshire County League rivals Monument Mountain and Pittsfield finished sixth and seventh respectively, separated by just 11 team points.
And the Spartans’ Amelia Desilets and Generals’ Yasmine Oubtrou placed fourth and fifth respectively – Desilets in 20:35.96 and Oubtrou just a couple of steps behind in 20:39.48.
A full county contingent at the regional championships also saw Lee, Wahconah, Hoosac Valley and Taconic place 12th, 13th, 16th and 19th, in that order, in the team standings.
Lee was led by Kira Johnson, who placed 37th. Wahconah got a 67th-place finish from Madeline Beatty. Hoosac Valley’s Hannah Walsh placed 61st, and Taconic’s Shelby Tart finished 65th.
