CHESHIRE, Mass. -- For much of Wednesday’s Berkshire County girls cross country race, it looked like the leaders were heading for another photo finish.

But this time, Pittsfield’s Kellie Harrington painted a different picture.

Harrington pulled away down the stretch to beat the field by more than 12 seconds and help the Generals go 3-0 in dual meets at Hoosac Valley.

It was the second time this year that all the Berkshire County League schools got together at the same venue. In the season-opening meet at Monument Mountain, Harrington placed third in a tight contest that saw the top three runners separated by less than 2 seconds.

This time around, Harrington crossed the line in 19 minutes 1.95 seconds, comfortably ahead of the Week 1 winner, Lenox’s Grace Elliot, who finished in 19:14.56.

“We go up that big hill in the woods twice -- first lap and second lap,” Harrington said. “Grace was still behind me tight going up the hill, and the strategy I used was just to go up the hill super fast and make sure you press the top. Do a nice fast 10 steps to the top.

“That’s where I put a lot of effort, and it definitely worked out.”

Harrington paced Pittsfield to dual meet wins over Mount Everett, Wahconah and the host Hurricanes.

Elliot and Alice Culver (fifth overall) led Lenox to a pair of wins over Wahconah and Hoosac Valley.

The Mount Greylock girls, who placed four runners in the top seven positions, easily won their duals against Mount Everett, Lee and Hoosac Valley by perfect scores of 15-50. Grace Malone (19:23.76) and Katherine Swann (19:33.06) placed third and fourth, respectively, for Mount Greylock.

In the boys race, once again it was all Lenox, which took the top three places with Dennis Love (16:55.11) coming home first ahead of teammates Harry Touloukian (17:17.54) and Maxwell Adam (17:21.33). A pair of Millionaires also finished 11th and 12th: Cormac Mathews and Renzo Vargas.

Pittsfield’s Jack Archey was the first non-Lenox runner across the finish line, coming in fourth in 17:26.47. He was followed by Hoosac Valley’s Justin Levesque (18:04.25) and Wahconah’s Riley Gladu (18:18.46).

Mount Greylock’s top boy was Ezra Holzapfel (18:29.81) in seventh as the Mounties went 3-0 in their duals with wins over Mount Everett, Lee and Hoosac Valley.

The day’s closest boys team race was between Wahconah and Pittsfield. Gladu anchored his team to a 24-44 win over the Generals.
