Powell, Williams Lead Taconic Wrestlers to Strong Showing at Holiday Tourney

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Zabion Powell and Isiah Williams each won his weight class Tuesday to lead the Taconic wrestling team to a fourth-place finish at the Berkshire Holiday Tournament at Monument Mountain.

Powell pinned Maple Hill’s Bryan Kern at 2 minutes, 45 seconds in the 132-pound final.
 
At 152, Williams earned a 10-1 major decision over Northwestern, Conn.’s, Joshua Schwartz.
 
Taconic finished with 142 points to finish fourth in the 13-team field, the highest finish among the four Berkshire County teams competing.
 
The team title went to Putnam with 210 points. It nosed out Hoosick Falls, N.Y., (197.5). Maple Hill was third with 191 points.
 
Host Monument Mountain placed fifth with 126.5 points. Nate Cormier placed second at 145 pounds. He dropped a 1-0 decision to Putnam’s Xzander Chapman in the final.
 
Mount Greylock finished 10th with 55 points.
 
The Mounties picked up an individual title from Devin Pelletier at 170 pounds. He pinned Taconic’s Tanner Hastings in the fourth minute of their championship match.
 
Mount Everett’s Pat Fosby reached the final match at 120 pounds, where he was pinned by Hoosick Falls’ Matthew Laporte at 3:30. Fosby and the Eagles finished in 12th place with 38 points.
