PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- While the Taconic High golf team may lack in number of players, it more than made up for that with low numbers on the scorecard in Tuesday's 12-stroke victory over Drury.

Ross Omelenchuck tied for medalist honors with a 6-over round of 41 on the front nine of Berkshire Hills Country Club to lead Taconic to a 172-184 win over Drury.

"Last year, depth was a nice thing to have," Taconic coach Michael Hillman said.  "I had 10 or 11 kids who could play in any match. This year I only have six total on the team. But it's a nice group of kids.

"I've only got one freshman, so five returnees. They've all got experience as far as playing in matches."

And on Tuesday, four of them scored 45 or better.

Omelenchuck birdied the 389-yard par 4 sixth hole on the way to tying with Drury's Nick Bator for the day's best individual score.

Kyle Rochelo finished just behind them for Taconic with a 42, and Mike Kays and Tim Curry rounded out the scoring with a 44 and a 45, respectively.

Nick Bouger and Chad Lawrence backed up Bator with rounds of 46 and 47, respectively. Reece Racette and Connor Kelly each had a 50 for the Blue Devils.

Curry scored from the No. 5 position in Taconic's lineup, trimming four strokes off the team's score when he turned in his card after finishing in the day's third and final group.

"Tim Curry played really well," Hillman said. "He had a couple of bad holes out there but seem to recovered. I know he had an 8. He tripled the fourth hole. And he seemed to hang in there and make some pars coming in.

"He shot a 45, which is a really nice round for him."

With the loss, Drury fell to 0-2 on the young season while Taconic improved to 2-1 heading into Thursday's match against Hoosac Valley.

"I'm looking forward to a good year," Hillman said. "I think we can be competitive with anyone in the county."

Drury hosts Mount Greylock on Thursday.
