Taconic Earns 2-1 Win over Lee at Cove

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Luzis Brown Friday rolled a 251 game to lead the Taconic bowling team to a 2-1 win over Lee at Cove Lanes.
 
Brown had the best game of the day in the Berkshire County High School Bowling League and the second-best two-game series, a 440, to extend first-place Taconic’s lead in the league’s “positional week,” where the first-place team bowled against the second, the third-place team bowled against the fourth and the fifth-place team bowled against the team in sixth.
 
Taconic will be the No. 1 seed in next week’s County Championship at K&M Bowling Pittsfield and will face fourth-place McCann Tech in the semi-finals. Lee, the reigning state champion, will play third-place Monument Mountain in the semis.
 
On Friday, Brown was backed up by Abby Bliss, who rolled the day’s second-best game and second-best series among the girls. Bliss rolled a 167 and a 136 for a 303 series. The teammate Alyssa Smith had a 143 game and 254 series.
 
The day’s top bowler on the girls side was Lee’s Maddie Kotek, who rolled a 223 game and 383 series.
 
Drury’s Zachary Mongeon had the day’s best series among all the bowlers, a 443. Mongeon also rolled a 245 game to lead the Blue Devils in a 3-0 win over PIttsfield.
 
The Generals were led by Jamari Carnute, who had the day’s third-best game, a 223, and third-best series, a 392.
 
Monument Mountain also got a 3-0 win, beating McCann Tech, behind Noah Walker, who rolled a 200 game and 384 series for the Spartans.
 
Before Friday’s games, the league recognized all of its graduating seniors and handed out end-of-year awards.
 
Lee’s Devyn Fillio and Jaden Parks, Pittsfield’s Carnute and Matt Dupuis, Drury’s Mongeon and Taconic’s Brown were named to the all-league team.
 
Dupuis received the Pete Snyder Sportsmanship Award. Taconic’s Tanner White took home the Lou Orazio Leadership Award.
 
 
Final varsity league standings: 1. Taconic, 27-6; 2. Lee 22-11; 3. Monument Mountain, 21-12; 4. McCann Tech, 15-18; 5. Drury, 12-21; 6. Pittsfield, 2-31.
