PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Taconic golf team Thursday qualified for the Western Massachusetts Division 1 tournament in style, posting its best round of the season in winning a pair of matches against Monument Mountain and Mount Everett.

The Thunder’s top four golfers each set or matched his career low as the team posted a 156 and improved to 8-6 with one match to play.

Mitch Hall birdied the par-3 third hole at Berkshire Hills en route to a 2-over-par 37 to earn medalist honors.

“Mitch followed up his 39 on Monday at home with another great round at home with a high school career low 37,” Taconic coach Matt Capeless said. “Ayden [Anderson] also had a great round today, with his first round under 40 in a match, with a 38 (also a high school career low).

“A little bit of a bounce-back day today after we struggled up at Waubeeka on Tuesday. I could feel the positive energy from both of them today heading into the match and had a very good feeling that they would both be under 40 today.”

Cam LaFerriere (40) and Cam Harrington (41) rounded out the scoring for Taconic, which beat Monument Mountain (182) and Mount Everett (201).

Harrington and LaFerriere also were among six seniors in the Taconic-Pittsfield cooperative team who were recognized on Thursday. They joined Ben Jacob, Ray Lynch, Brayden Bishop and Riley Laurent on senior Day.

For Monument Mountain on Thursday, Greg Kay carded a 41 to lead the way. Mount Everett got a 47 from Simon Fife.

Taconic has one more dual match this fall on Monday when it hosts Mount Greylock, which could need a win to secure a share of the Berkshire County League title; the Mounties are tied with Wahconah at one loss each, and Wahconah finishes the regular season Friday at Mount Everett.
