Hoosac Valley Girls, Wahconah Boys Earn Pair of Dual Meet Wins

CHESHIRE, Mass. – Payton Shippee won three events Thursday to lead the Wahconah boys track and field team to a pair of dual meet wins at Hoosac Valley.

 

Shippee won the discus and javelin and placed second in the shot put in the field. On the track, he won the 400-meter dash.

 

Wahconah beat the host Hurricanes, 117-23, and edged Taconic, 81-60.

 

Alexander Perenick won a pair of events, sweeping the hurdles, and placed second in the long jump and third in the shot put.

 

Taconic’s Matthew McIntosh won three events: the high jump, long jump and 200.

 

In the girls’ three team meet, Hoosac Valley won a pair of duals, topping Taconic and Wahconah by similar margins: 90-46 and 96-44, respectively.

 

The Hurricanes won largely on the strength of their throws, where Hanna Shea took the shot, Gabby Billetz took the discus and Abby Scialabba took the javelin. In all, the Hurricanes took 13 of the top 18 places in the three throwing disciplines.

 

On the track, Hoosac Valley’s Hannah Walsh won the 1600 meters and 3200 meters.

 

Taconic’s Tiffin Martin was the meet’s top individual performer, winning all four of the events she entered.

 

Martin placed first in the 200 meters and 100 hurdles on the track. And she won the high jump and triple jump in the field to lead the Thunder to a 70-64 dual meet win over Wahconah.
