Taconic Icers Fall in Two OTs in State Tourney

GARDNER, Mass. – Ty Burdett scored midway through the second overtime period Monday to give the Gardner hockey team a 5-4 win over Taconic in the preliminary round of the Division 4 State Tournament.
 
Rylan Padelford scored with 34 seconds left in the third period to force overtime for the Thunder, which led, 2-1 after one period but fell behind, 4-3, in the 10th minute of the third.
 
Antonio Scalise made 37 saves in Taconic’s goal.
 
Alex Jerebtsov and Brayden Bishop each scored in the first period with Geoff Pensivy, Roshan Warriar and Padelford earning assists.
 
Gardner scored a goal to tie it, 2-2, to start the second, but Warriar scored with help from Pensivy and Jerebtsov to put the Thunder back on top.
 
No. 32 Gardner scored to tie it before the end of the second and opened its first lead, 4-3, when Hunter Barlow scored in the 40th minute of play.
 
With 1:40 left to play, Taconic coach Matt Risley pulled Scalise, and a minute later, Bishop set up Padelford for the equalizer.
 
The teams then played a scoreless eight minutes of 4-on-4 hockey to send it to a second OT.
 
Taconic finishes the season with a record of 10-7.
 
Gardner (13-7) moves on to face top-seeded Norwell in the Round of 32.
