Taconic's Robitaille, Duhamel Win State Titles
CHICOPEE, Mass. – Taconic bowler’s Mya Duhamel and Andrew Robitaille each won individual state championships on Sunday.
Robitaille advanced to Sunday’s boys individual playoffs by rolling a three-game series of 672, fourth among the eight qualifiers who made the cut. Also advancing was Robitaille’s teammate, Mitch McCann, with a 620 series.
Robitaille then rolled a 214 in his next game to move on to the match play finals, where he defeated Dylan Goral and Tyler Goral of state team semi-finalist St. John’s by scores of 215-200 and 224-204.
Duhamel was one of three Berkshire County girls to advance out of the first round of the individuals. She was the second qualifier with a three-game series of 544 behind state team champion Worcester Tech’s Mia Stolakis (677).
Lee’s Emily Holian (520) and Bella Kotek (495) also advanced out of the first round.
Both Duhamel and Holian advanced through the second round, with games of 190 and 204, respectively.
In the finals, Duhamel defeated Bay Path’s Sarah Kempskie, 205-192; Holian, 218-158; and Stolakis, 208-179, to claim Taconic’s first girls state title since Lynsey Aldam in 2017.
It was a successful weekend for the Berkshire County contingent at the two-day event at Chicopee Lanes.
Taconic and Pittsfield were the top two qualifiers among 10 teams at the Division A state tournament after bowling two regular games and three Baker format games on Saturday.
In the semi-finals, Taconic fell to Worcester Tech in two games, 180-155 and 230-142.
Pittsfield went three games against St. John’s before advancing by scores of 188-121, 157-171 and 202-146.
Worcester Tech then won its third straight state team title with a win over Pittsfield in the title match, winning in three games: 180-152, 150-183, 195-151.
Robitaille rolled a 279 in Saturday’s competition. The Generals were led by Justin Doyle with a 231.
