WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Alexander Axt carded a 1-over-par round of 37 on the front nine at Waubeeka Golf Links Friday to lead the Mount Greylock golf team to victory against Mount Everett.

The Mounties finished with a team score of 159, their best in several years in a dual match.

"This was the first time in my time at Greylock I have seen it happen by any team in the 150s at Waubeeka," Mount Greylock coach Mitchell Spooner said. "This score would have beaten every home or visiting team that played there in the last four seasons.

"Good to see our entire team swinging well. Through five matches we have had three or four team medalists, which speaks to our depth."

Cameron Turner carded a 40, and Owen Petropulos and Thomas Art each finished at 41 to round out the scoring.

Petropulos and Art also birdied the par-5 eighth hole for the only birdies of the day.

Simon Fife parred No. 8 on his way to a 61 to lead the Eagles.

"Mount Everett was a great team of gentlemen and we enjoyed hosting them," Spooner said.

"The highlight of the day as a coach was when Everett coach Tony Bleau came up to me after to compliment the sportsmanship of Tommy Art who took the time during the round to go out of his way and give lessons and tips with his opponent all round in order to help him improve his game. Tony went on to compliment Waubeeka course and staff."

Mount Everett hosts Wahconah on Monday. Mount Greylock goes to Hoosac Valley on Tuesday.
