McCann Tech Boys Run at State Voc Championships
WRENTHAM, Mass. -- McCann Tech senior Jerry McCarthy finished 13th to lead the Hornets to a fifth-place finish at the State Vocational Cross Country Championships.
McCarthy covered the 5-kilometer course at the Wrentham Developmental Center in 19 minutes, 50 seconds, about a minute and a half behind individual champion Sohan Tyner of Franklin County (18:24).
McCann's Cory Hartley (20:54) and Cameron Anderson (20:57) placed 27th and 28th, respectively. A little further back, Hornets Zachery Bettis (22:09) and William Galipeau (22:16) placed 45th and 46th to round out the team scoring.
McCann finished with 159 points. Lynn Voc/Tech won the State Voc Division 2 title with 111 points.
McCann coach Eileen Monyahan said the unseasonably warm weather forced several runners out of the competition, including her two entrants in the D2 girls race.
Still in all, the event was the continuation of a successful season for the Hornets.
"Our runners gave every ounce they had," Monyahan said. "I'm incredibly proud of them and the season they had."
McCann's runners will travel to Westfield on Saturday, Nov. 14, for the MIAA Western Massachusetts Championships at Stanley Park.
