WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Hannah Blake ran a time of 27 minutes to lead the McCann Tech girls cross country team at the PVIAC Individual Championships on Saturday at Stanley Park.

Although she did not lead the pack, the experience was a good one for the McCann freshman, according to coach Eileen Monyahan.

"She is used to leading the pack in small meets," Monyahan said. "This was her first time in a large field, and she learned she has to be more aggressive in passing. She'll need that knowledge on Wednesday."

On Wednesday, the Hornets head to the State Vocational Championships, where the McCann boys enter as the defending champions.

On Saturday, seniors Jerry McCarthy and lukas Yelle led McCann's boys, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 19:31 and 20:12, respectively. Cameron Anderson (20:29), Chris Santella (21:18) and Billy Gallipeau (21:35) rounded out the McCann boys contingent.

Following Blake on the girls side were freshman Dakota Hurley, whose 29:01 shaved nearly three minutes off her Stanley Park time from earlier this season. Junior Rosalyn Lincoln also competed for the Hornets.
