NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The McCann Tech bowling team Tuesday defeated Wahconah in seven games to claim its second straight Berkshire County Championship.

The Hornets came back from a 2-1 deficit in the championship match to win three of the last four Baker format games, the last a convincing 223-167 victory to clinch the title on a day that saw the county’s six best teams lock horns at Greylock Bowl and Golf.

McCann came into the night perfect on the season, and that is exactly how they left. Coming off of an impressive Berkshire County and undefeated regular season McCann has only one more goal left in mind.

The Hornets started the first game off with a 16-pin victory, but followed with two straight losses after Wahconah put up 233 and 195 back-to-back games.

“I’ll tell you i was a little worried, but this team has dug down so much.” McCann Tech coach Rick Moon said. “They brought back the state championship mode. I’m so proud of them.”

That “State Championship mode” kicked in during games four and five to give them a 3-2 lead, including a 243 in game five, the highest score in the finals. Wahconah stole a game back, forcing a game seven to decide the champion.

Wahconah started off slow and McCann Tech smelled blood as it jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. It finished the final game with a 223 to 167, clinching back-to-back titles and continuing their perfect streak this year.

Moon was at a loss for words when talking about the run McCann has had all season long.

“Incredible, these kids kept wanting more and more,” he said. “They kept practicing hard and they just kept going and did not give up no matter what."

McCann Tech will look to make some more noise in the State Championships on Saturday and hope to keep their undefeated season going.
