Athletes of the Week: Whitney & Dubie

Mount Greylock senior Julia Whitney stepped up into a high-pressure role and has played up to all expectations in a 5-0 start for the Mounties.

"When Sam [MacWhinnie] graduated, we didn't have a goalie, and she stepped up and said she would play, which I'm very thankful for," Mount Greylock lacrosse coach Lindsey von Holtz said. "She has good stick skills and good agility. It's been a good switch for her."

Whitney has stopped 50 percent of the shots she has faced this spring and had 10 saves in a 16-12 win over Lee on Tuesday — Mount Greylock’s fourth win in five days.


Ryan Dubie
Drury High

Drury sophomore Ryan Dubie took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Saturday at Joe Wolfe Field against Wahconah.

Although he surrendered two hits and a run in that seventh, the right-hander secured a 3-1 win for the Blue Devils, who are 3-1 on the young season.

"Ryan is a kid who just kind of goes out there — there's very little expression, very little emotion," Drury coach Pat Boulger said. "He just kept them off balance. I think he spotted beautifully well today."

Dubie struck out two and walked two to help keep Drury unbeaten at the time. He also helped his cause by driving in the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly.
