PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Lee High girls volleyball team defeated Taconic Tuesday afternoon in straight sets, 3-0, at Taconic High School.

Junior Angelique Nejaime was a standout for the Wildcats with six aces for the match, four coming in the second set putting them ahead 23-14. Her other two came in the third set.

"She's a terrific server, she was our libero last year, but she's shifted her roles this year," Lee coach Jon Warner said. "She's always been an effective penetrating server."

Nejaime gave her team an early lead in the second set with an ace making it 8-3; her teammate Shenna Tyer also added an ace in the second putting them up 18-6.

Tyer also recorded seven kills for the day and Kendra Williams had five.

Lee beat Taconic, 25-17, in both the first set and the second set; it was in the third where they made a run finishing 25-12.

"Taconic is a little unorthodox in their style and we're not accustomed to that coming at us," Warner said. "So just their style of play was a little unorthodox and once we got accustomed to it we settled in."

Taconic held its own in the first and second sets, coming back from 18-6 in the second with aces from Maddy Quinto and Janee Walker.

But Lee was able to adjust to their style of play by the third set and finish the match taking it 3-0 for the win.

Lee plays at St.Joe Thursday and Taconic plays at Wahconah.
