LEE, Mass. – Meghan Cook, a senior at Lee Middle and High School, has been selected as the recipient of the MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award for March 2015.

Cook is a two-sport student-athlete, participating on the soccer and track and field teams at Lee Middle and High School. As the captain of the varsity soccer team, Meghan was selected by the Berkshire County Soccer Officials to receive the Female Sportsmanship of the Year Award for the Southern Division.

“She is well-spoken, polite and respectful not only to the game, but to the other players, coaches and officials," Lee girls soccer coach Lauren Finnegan said.

In the classroom, Cook has earned a 94 GPA. Her course load consists of several honors and Advanced Placement classes, which she has taken since her junior year. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Lee High Student Council.

She helps promote a positive student environment through activities such as pep rallies, spirit week and various fundraisers. She also
participates in the Drama Club and was a cast member in the winter musicals.

In addition to her academic and athletic leadership, Meghan has made a difference in the community. She is a member of Helping Hands, a group that works to support the community through events such as collecting food donations for the local pantry, as well as cooking and serving monthly dinners at the Lee Community Dinner program.

“Meghan Cook personifies the phrase Student-Athlete," said Finnegan, also a teacher at the school. "She is a wonderful role model to the children in our community and I am proud to have coached her in girls soccer at Lee Middle and High School these last four years.”

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Student-Athlete of the Month Award is presented on a monthly basis to one male and one female student-athlete who display excellence in the areas of academics, athletics and community service. Students in grades 9-12 who attend MIAA member schools are eligible to receive the award.

Monthly award recipients will receive a certificate of recognition and be featured on MIAA.net. Nominations for the award may be submitted by principals, athletic directors, teachers, coaches, guidance counselors or other school administrators.
