Adam Leads Lenox Boys to Western Mass Title, Mount Greylock Girls First
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Maxwell Adam and Dennis Love continued their dominance this fall with another 1-2 finish on Sunday, this time at the PVIAC Western Massachusetts Division 2 meet at Stanley Park.
Adam’s winning 5-kilometer time of 16 minutes, 5.95 seconds paced the Lenox boys to a team championship in the 24-team competition.
It was a Berkshire County sweep at the top of the podiums and in the team titles as the Mount Greylock girls won the D2 team crown and Pittsfield’s Kellie Harrington placed first in D2 with a time of 18:47.12, nearly a minute faster than the rest of the field.
Lenox’s Alex Culver placed second in the region, crossing the line in 19:43.85.
Mount Greylock placed five runners in the top 20 to win the girls team title with 59 points, well ahead of runner-up Hampshire Regional with 84.
Ainsley Abel led Mount Greylock with a fifth-place finish. Adriana Carasone placed seventh for the Mounties. Vera de Jong, Katherine Goss and Chase Hoey rounded out the scoring for Mount Greylock.
Lenox’s Elyssa Scrimo joined Culver in the top 10, placing sixth, as the Millionaires finished fourth in the team standings.
Harrington’s win helped Pittsfield take sixth place. Taconic was right behind the Generals in seventh behind Molly McNeil’s 31st-place showing.
In the boys race, Cormac Mathews placed fifth to give Lenox three finishers in the top five.
He finished just ahead of Monument Mountain’s Everett Pacheco in sixth place, the only ninth-grader in the top 10 on Sunday.
Then came four straight runners from Mount Greylock – Andrew Petropulos, Oliver Swabey, Ryan Keating and Ezar Holzapfel – who helped the Mounties finish second in the team standings behind Lenox.
It was a strong day all the way around for the Berkshire County boys, who took three of the top five places in the 24 team field.
