Mount Greylock, Lenox Athletes Compete at Meet of Champions
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Mount Greylock sophomore Lily McDermott Thursday took a second and a half off her seed time en route to a 20th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles at the MIAA Meet of Champions at Westfield State University.
McDermott, who was seeded 32nd in the field, ran a time of 1 minute, 9.64 seconds, well ahead of her 1:11.10 seed time.
She was joined in the girls 400 hurdles by Hoosac Valley's Lilly Boudreau, who placed 28th in the event.
Just a handful of the Berkshire County student-athletes who qualified for the two-day event competed on Thursday.
In the boys 2-mile run, Lenox's Max Adam placed 23rd in a time of 9:52.57, ahead of his seed time of 9:54.33. Adam was seeded 33rd in the state going into the competition.
McDermott's Mount Greylock teammates Eamonn Hetherington and Ryan Goss competed in the discus on Thursday.
Heatherington placed 10th in the state with a mark of 141 feet, nine inches. Entering the meet, he was seeded 12th. Goss, who was seeded 18th in the field, ended up 15th with a throw of 129-4.
The Meet of Champions concludes on Saturday.
