Mount Greylock Wins Battle of Unbeatens Against Longmeadow
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Kylie Sweren passed out 35 assists and served the pivotal point in the fifth set as the Mount Greylock volleyball team earned a five-set win over Division 2 Longmeadow on Monday night.
Sweren earned a point on her serve to give the Mounties their first match point in what ended up a 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13 win.
“[It was] a back and forth match that included many long rallies and impressive digs and kills,” Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said. “Both teams started the day 3-0 and neither had dropped a set this season.”
Sweren finished with six aces and a pair of kills in the win. Celina Savage had a team-high 20 kills and four aces, and Jackie Brannan led Mount Greylock with 12 digs.
After Mount Greylock won with relative ease in the first set, Longmeadow came back to win the second by just three points in a set that included 10 ties.
“As the match went on, the teams adjusted their defenses to stop each other's strengths and serving strategy became paramount,” Geyer said. “Any good pass would likely result in an advantage for the passing team so both teams worked their service locations.”
Mount Greylock (4-0) hosts Pittsfield on Tuesday.
