AMHERST, Mass. – The Taconic volleyball team Friday took Amherst-Pelham to extra points in the fifth set before the Hurricanes prevailed, 3-2.

The Thunder actually had more points in the 25-23, 16-25, 15-25, 27-25, 16-14 decision, but the hosts took two nail-biters late to prevail.

“Amherst played really well tonight and this could have, and maybe should have ended in our favor tonight,” Taconic coach Lance Fyfe said. “But what matters most is that we played as hard as we could and we supported each other. This is the only way to continue to improve, and I think we're walking away from this stronger and closer together as a team.”

Ella Stodden had another strong all-around night for Taconic, compiling 33 assists to go with eight digs, six aces and a pair of kills.

Janayah Jones had a double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs.

Jadyn Galliher finished with nine kills, and Aliya DelSonno pulled up 13 digs.

Taconic (8-4) goes to Pittsfield on Monday.
