For the second year in a row, the Mount Greylock Regional School volleyball team has had a player selected for all-State recognition by the Massachusetts Volleyball Coaches Association.

Mountie senior Kylie Sweren was named to the Division 3-4-5 all-state team last week after leading her team to a Division 5 State Championship as a junior and a state quarter-final appearance and Western Massachusetts Class C Championship this fall.

Sweren played four years on the varsity for the Mounites, setting a school record for assists. This fall, she played as an attacker and a setter after setting in a 5-1 system in 2023.

"Kylie is the ultimate team player who leads by example in practice and in matches," Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said. "She is someone that all players lean on and look up to and supports her teammates at all times. In addition to leading in many statistical categories,

"Kylie's work ethic is second to none. Remarkably, over the course of these past four years Kylie has a perfect practice attendance record. She is very deserving of this all state selection"

In her four years of high school, Mount Greylock has won its league each year and won Western Mass three times.

Last year, the Mounties' Celina Savage was an all-State selection.

This fall, Sweren is one of just two Western Massachusetts student-athletes on the 22-person D3-4-5 all-state team. She is joined by Frontier Regional's Abigail Hernandez. Sweren is one of four players at a Division 5 program to make the cut.

Also last week, Sweren was one of 15 Berkshire County student-athletes invited to participate in the 12th International Volleyball Hall of Fame All-Star Showcase, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Holyoke Community College.

The event will feature two contests, a second-team all-star match at 6 followed by a first-team match at 7:30

Players from five different Berkshire County teams will be represented at the showcase.

The 6 p.m. match will include Lee's Alexis Masten, Lenox's Hailey Armold, Mount Greylock's Annabelle Coody, Taconic's Ella Stodden and Wahconah's Taea Cunagin and Amelia Sturz.

The 7:30 match will feature: Lee's Juliana Schuerer and Karalynn Hopkins; Lenox's Abby Winger and Kelsey Kirchner; Mount Greylock's Sweren, Kelsey MacHaffie and Emily Alvarez; and Wahconah's Eve Colombari and Megan O'Bryan.
