WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- A hard-fought battle between two even teams on a neutral surface ended the way it probably should have on Saturday, with a 0-0 draw between the Drury and Mount Anthony girls' soccer teams.
The Blue Devils (3-2-2) and Patriots battled back and forth on the fast-paced turf of Williams College's Renzie Lamb Field and ended up tying each other 10 shots in the game. Drury held a slight 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but couldn't find a way past Mt. Anthony goalie Kallie Glanovsky (seven saves). The Devils' best chance to score came when senior Mariah Ferrara just missed getting on the other end of a cross in front of the net.
""It took both teams most of the first half to get into the swing of the movement of the ball," Drury head coach Molly Meczywor said. "Both teams had great chances to score. Mount Anthony had a breakaway but was stopped by a diving Ali Tatro.
"We demonstrated we could play fast and physical and that propelled us for the second half, where we controlled much of the play. Laryssa Lapointe and Sarah Bloom worked especially hard on the right side of the field and created most of our opportunities. I thought out team showed a tremendous amount of passion and heart today."
Tatro, Drury's junior keeper, made seven saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season. Through seven games this year, Tatro is allowing 1.28 goals per game. Sophomore defender Alyssa Marceau also played a big role in preserving the shutout according to Meczywor.
The Blue Devils next play at Taconic at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
