Lenox Scores Late to Advance Past Eagles
LENOX, Mass. -- Solia Herndon-Schmid set up two goals, and Aliza Munch made five saves Wednesday to lead the Lenox girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Mount Everett in the semi-final round of the Class D Western Massachusetts tournament.
Aurora Lenehan scored the game-winner in the 65th minute. Mary Elliot added an insurance goal three minutes later.
"The majority of the game was fought in the middle of the pitch, with both sides getting very limited decent looks on goal," Lenox coach Brian Seminara said. "Lenox started pushing hard for a goal as time clicked off the clock and with about 15 minutes left on the clock, a shot from Solia got a little deflection and Aurora was able to bang it in for the eventual winning goal of the game.
"Two minutes later, Mary Elliot got a nice through ball from Solia to ice the game for Lenox. It's been nice to have that senior leadership who's been in these circumstances before take the team on their backs through these big game experiences: from Molly [Knight] and Aidan [Burns] in the back to Mary and Solia up front."
Emma Goewey made 13 saves for Mount Everett.
Lenox moves on to Saturday's regional final against the winner of Thursday's game between Granby and Monson.
