Lenox Girls Top Lee to Win South Division
LENOX, Mass. -- Shelby Lynch and Nicole Gamberoni each scored a goal to lead the Lenox girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Lee on Saturday night as the Millionaires clinched the outright Berkshire County South Division title.
“Lee has been a on a great run recently as they've been fighting their way into the tournament, so we knew they were going to come into this game playing some confident soccer,” Lenox coach Kyle Zinchuk said. “Fortunately, we were able to keep our emotions in check on Senior Night and come away with a win against a good Lee squad.”
Lynch got the scoring started with an assist from Abby Schilling in the sixth minute.
Early in the second half, Julie Pehlert set up Nicole Gamberoni for an insurance goal.
Lenox’s Sophie Patella made six saves to earn the shutout in goal.
Brianna Hawley made 11 saves for Lee (9-9).
Although Lenox (9-5-3) is notable for its youth this fall, Zinchuk took note of the senior leadership that made the league title possible.
“Talia Traversa, although out with a torn ACL, has been a huge presence for us as a leader and a captain, and continued in that role on the sidelines tonight,” he said. “Sarah Fenton was dangerous all night long on the right side of the midfield and generated some great chances for us through her tenacity and great footwork. Kristin Parkinson was huge for us in controlling the game from her role as a defensive mid, snuffing out attacks, and then distributing the ball forward.”
Lenox finishes its regular season on Monday at Taconic.
The Western Mass tournament seedings will be announced on Wednesday.
