LENOX, Mass. -- Abby Schilling scored with about 12 minutes left to break a 1-1 tie and send the Lenox girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over Taconic on Monday evening.

“This game had a playoff feel to it, especially in the second half, with both teams fighting for every opportunity,” Lenox coach Kyle Zinchuk said. “Taconic played a very organized and disciplined game, and were dangerous on the counter attack and in set pieces with the opening goal coming off a nice volley from a cross on a throw-in.”

Taconic (5-4) took a lead in the 12th minute when Jenna Bateman set up Natalia Agrelo.

Six minutes later, Lenox (4-4-2) evened things up when Shelby Lynch scored with an assist from Nicole Gamberoni.

It stayed 1-1 until the 68 minute, 15 second mark, when Julie Pehlert assisted Schilling on the game-winner.

“We were forced to rebound after giving up the first goal, and had to keep working in the second half and push through several opportunities that we barely missed and setbacks that were out of our control,” Zinchuk said. This is the kind of experience that can be huge for a team later down the road.”

Jackie Boateng made 20 saves for Taconic. Lenox got 11 stops from Sophie Patella.

Taconic goes to Belchertown on Wednesday while the Millionaires take a three-game unbeaten streak into Thursday’s game against South Hadley.
