Southwick Girls Edge Lenox

Lenox coach Kyle Zinchuk said it was a well played game by both sides in a contest that saw the Millionaires overcome some injuries to key players.

 

Southwick broke a scoreless tie with just 1 minute, 30 seconds left before half-time, but Lenox (8-3-1) answered just 15 seconds later.

 

The Millionaires took the ball down the right side and sent a cross into the box for Shelby Lynch. Lynch directed the ball to Tova Brown, who finished to make it 1-1 at half-time.

 

McGivney managed to beat Shannon Meisberger (nine saves) midway through the second half, and this time Lenox could not find the answer.

 

“Unfortunately in the second half we weren't able to get the equalizer even though we had a few different chances,” Zinchuk said. “We had a player brought down in the box on a breakaway and were given an indirect free kick that we just missed converting, and late in the game had another chance on a free kick from about 30 yards out where their keeper came out and got a hand on it and we put the rebound just over the crossbar.

 

“The girls really worked hard in this one and although it's a frustrating loss, there are a lot of positives we can take away from this game.”

 

Lenox hosts Gateway next Saturday.
