PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Pittsfield High School girls soccer team this month is holding a “PK-athon” to raise money for the Jake Hescock Win the Day Foundation.

Next week, the Generals will be taking sponsorships for the event, where each player on the team will take penalty kicks. Money raised from sponsorships will go toward the foundation, named for former Taconic High School student-athlete Jake Hescock.

Hescock left Taconic to attend a prep school and develop his academic and athletic skills before going on to play Division I college football.

He died in December 2022 after suffering sudden cardiac arrest. And the foundation started by his family seeks to promote awareness of cardiac anomalies and support screening for young people.

On Oct. 15, the foundation and In a Heartbeat, a Connecticut-based non-profit, will host free screenings for Pittsfield Public Schools students, parents and family members.

To register for the screenings, visit this site.

The Pittsfield High girls soccer team, which met with Jake’s mother Carey on Wednesday, also will be volunteering to help with setup and cleanup at the Oct. 15 screenings.
