The Pittsfield girls' soccer team is on a roll this year, and Sydney Deluce is right behind the wheel of the Generals' success. The senior midfielder is leading an undefeated Pittsfield squad with five goals scored and is currently tied for second on her team with three assists.

Last week, Deluce scored goals in two out of her team's three games to help the Generals (8-0-2) to a 2-0-1 record. Her scoring wasn't needed in a 2-1 win at Hoosac Valley on Monday, but it was a major factor in helping Pittsfield pull out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mount Greylock on Thursday. Deluce knocked in a feed from junior Morgan Matthews in the 31st minute of play for the only goal of the game against talented Mounties' keeper Margot Besnard. Deluce capped off her stellar week by scoring the game-tying goal with just over 10 minutes to play to give the Generals a 1-1 tie against defending Division 2 state champion Auburn. Despite being down 1-0 at halftime, Deluce's goal, which was set up by junior Meghan Driscoll, assured Pittsfield of an undefeated record.

"Sydney is one my senior captains and leaders of this year's team," Generals head coach Andy Waluszko said. "She has been a four-year varsity player and a starter the last three years. She's a very skilled player, who starts for us at center midfield. We do move her to other positions throughout the game, though, because of her versatility and soccer smarts. She has great field vision and has done a great job this year of distributing and setting up her teammates for goals. Syd delivers a very strong and accurate shot on goal and has had the knack over the last few years to deliver big game-winning goals for us."
