Kinne Scores Twice to Give Monument Girls Comeback Win
LENOX, Mass. -- Abbey Kinne scored a pair of second half goals Thursday to give Monument Mountain a 2-1, come-from-behind win over Lenox in the season opener for both teams.
Aliza Munch gave the Millionaires an early lead with a goal assisted by Medeja Rudzinskaite in the 13th minute.
It stayed that way until the 47th minute, when Abby Dohoney set up Kinney for the equalizer.
Late in regulation, Kinne broke the tie with an assist from Olivia Ruggiero.
Lenox coach Brian Seminara said the season’s first game was played with post-season intensity.
“The girls on both squads played a very hard fought and fairly even game,” Seminara said. “There were 10 to 15 minutes where we controlled possession, there were 10 to 15 minutes where Monument did. I don't think either team ever felt like they were in complete control the entire game.
“Even after scoring the second [Monument Mountain] goal with five mins left in the game, Lenox pushed hard and almost had an equalizer, but it was not to be.”
Monument Mountain hosts Mount Everett on Saturday evening.
Lenox is at Granby on Saturday.
