Firth, Spartans Pull Away in Second Half at Lenox
LENOX, Mass. — Iris Firth had a natural hat trick in the second half Monday to lead the Monument Mountain girls soccer team to a 4-0 win over Lenox.
A back-and-forth first half was marked only by Mercedez Raifstanger’s goal six minutes in. Jade Nelson had the assist on what ended up being in the game-winner.
In the second half, Firth scored three times, the last with about two minutes remaining, to put the game away. Nelson added her second assist of the game in the process.
“As the second half started, Monument's roster of 16 upperclassmen was able to find an extra gear that our four upperclassmen and 14 underclassmen, weren't able to match,” Lenox coach Brian Seimara said.
“After we went down that second goal, things changed for us. It forced Lenox to play a bit more high risk to try and get on the scoreboard and unfortunately for us Monument was able to counter and shut the door.”
Alex Tenney made eight saves to earn the shutout win in the Spartans’ goal.
Ella Hall made 15 stops for Lenox (0-1-1), which goes to Hoosac Valley on Thursday.
Monument Mountain (4-0) hosts Springfield Central on Wednesday.
