BENNINGTON, Vt. -- After its second slow start in as many games, the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team responded with a strong second half to defeat Mount Anthony 2-1 on the road on Saturday.

Junior forward Alex Majetich nailed a penalty kick with three minutes remaining in regulation to net the game-winner for the Mounties (4-1-2). Majetich's team-leading seventh goal of the season came after she collected a through ball inside the box and was taken down "pretty hard" by the Patriots' defense.

"After a sloppy first half, we played a much stronger second half," Greylock head coach Tom Ostheimer said. "We were able to escape with a win thanks to a PK by Alex late in the game."

Senior captain Annie Flynn got the Mounties off to a quick start after halftime by finishing off a pass from sophomore Sophie Leamon just one minute into the second half. Shelby McLenekin tied the game with a goal at the 63-minute mark, setting the stage for Majetich's clutch goal.

Junior keeper Margot Besnard finished with 12 saves for Greylock, which outshot Mount Anthony 22-14 in the game.

The Mounties next play at Mount Everett at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
