Wahconah Runs Away from Greylock
DALTON, Mass. — The Mount Greylock girls' soccer team hit its biggest bump in the road so far this season, allowing a pair of goals in the final 17 minutes to lose 3-0 at Wahconah on Friday. The Warriors (4-2-1) took a 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the game when Alex Keater snuck a shot past Greylock keeper Margot Besnard. It was the only goal allowed on the day for Besnard, who made 12 saves before leaving the goal in an attempt to help the Mounties' offense midway through the second half.
The plan backfired for the Mounties (4-3-2), who surrendered goals to Bridget Lussier and Erin Hopmans in the 63rd and 76th minute, respectively. Freshman goalie Charlotte Rand made one save in relief of Besnard, while Payton Hines stopped seven shots to earn the shutout in net for Wahconah.
While the Warriors' defense proved to be tough on Friday, the Greylock offense will need to find a way to get back on track before its next game at Taconic at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mounties have scored just one goal in their last four games.
