McDermott Game-Winner Lifts Mounties Past Spartans

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Lily McDermott scored with just less than 16 minutes left Monday to snap a 2-2 tie and send the Mount Greylock girl soccer team on to a 3-2 win over Monument Mountain.

 

The Spartans got on the board first with a goal from Mercedez Raifstanger midway through the first half.

 

Mount Greylock’s Erin Keating answered less than a minute later to tie it, but Mabel Cooney scored with an assist from Iris Firth to send the visitors into half-time ahead, 2-1.

 

Mount Greylock got the tying goal from Mila Marcisz with an assist from Gigi Nicastro.

 

Nora Lopez set up McDermott on the game-winner.

 

Mai O’Connor stopped three shots for Mount Greylock behind a defense anchored by Rowan Apotsos.

 

The Mounties (4–0) go to Lenox on Wednesday.

 

Monument Mountain (5-1) hosts Hoosac Valley on Wednesday.
