Wahconah Girls Edge Mount Greylock on Late Goal

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Hannah Bowlby scored in the final two minutes of the game to give the Wahconah girls soccer team a 2-1 win over Mount Greylock on Monday night at Berkshire Community College.
 
Bowlby got behind Mounties keeper Delaney Babcock took a pass from Olivia Gamberoni inside the 6-yard area as time was running down for an open look at the goal.
 
The winning play started with a cross into 6 from deep on the right wing by Noelle Furlong.
 
Whaconah got five saves from Kelly Anderson to knock Mount Greylock from the ranks of the unbeaten on the young season.
 
The Mounties drew first blood in the 11th minute when Jacqueline Wells scored off a through ball up the middle from Clara McWeeny.
 
Three minutes later, Nicole Mazzeo knotted the game for Wahconah, knocking in the rebound off a diving save by Babcock (12 saves).
 
The Mounties nearly regained the lead late in the 21st minute on a Livia Morales strike from 30 yards out that hit the crossbar. 
 
Mount Greylock's best chance to take the lead again came in the 43rd minute when Elizabeth Dupras ran on a through ball from McWeeny up the right wing, but Wahconah's defense was able to defend the play for a corner kick.
 
Wahconah nearly scored the go-ahead goal about a minute before Bowlby's game-winner when Jillian Cote's free kick from midfield was saved, but the rebound came loose. the Mounties' defense was able to clear the ball out of danger at the top of the 18.
 
Mount Greylock goes to Lee on Wednesday. Wahconah is at Lenox on Thursday.
 
Monday's games, like most of the contests in the Fall 2 season at BCC, was televised by Pittsfield Community Television.
