Meczywor, Hurricanes Post Road Shutout
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Zamira Sambert scored midway through the first half, and the Hoosac Valley girls soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Springfield Central on Wednesday.
The Eagles started the game strong, but Hoosac Valley was able to make an adjustment and build possession, Hoosac Valley coach Mark Ziaja said.
Sambert broke the seal in the 18th minute, and Hoosac Valley closed the half strong to protect the lead.
"In the second half, Hoosac had better possession," Ziaja said. "Central had a few dangerous counters. Keeper Emma Meczywor made a big save on a collision with an attacker with about 10 minutes to play but shook it off."
Meczywor finished with nine saves to earn her first shutout of the season.
The Eagles outshot the Hurricanes by a margin of 9-7.
Hoosac Valley (2-2) hosts Mahar on Friday.
