CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Kim Mach scored a late goal to break a second-half tie and give the Hoosac Valley girls soccer team its first win of the season on Thursday, a 2-1 victory over Mahar.

"Great game for our girls," Hoosac Valley coach Kathy Budaj said. "Our first win, and, boy, did it feel good. It was nice to see the girls so happy. They showed a fire that they really wanted this game, and the hard work they have been doing really paid off."

Lilly Boudreau got the scoring started with an assist from Sam Loholdt on a corner kick with about eight minutes left in the first half.

Mahar came back to level the score with 12 minutes left.

But Averie McGrath set up Mach, who lofted a shot over the keeper's head for the game-winner.

Hoosac Valley (1-12) hosts Springfield Central on Friday.
