Emily Steuernagle Leads Mount Everett into Semi-Finals
SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Emily Steuernagle scored a pair of goals Monday to lead the Mount Everett girls soccer team to a 3-1 win over Smith Academy in the Class D Western Massachusetts quarter-finals.
Alison Steuernagle assisted on May Liebenow’s goal in the sixth minute to get the Eagles on the board.
“We came out a little flat and nervous to start, but once May was able to put that first goal in our confidence started rolling, which was good to see,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said.
Julia Devoti set up Emily Steuernagle to put the Eagles up, 2-0, midway through the first half.
Smith Academy put a goal on the board late in the half, but Emily Steuernagle scored an unassisted goal three minutes into the second half to re-establish the two-goal margin.
“Emily did a great job today in the middle at distributing and finding open teammates, and when we needed a goal, she found a way to put one in the back of the net,” King said.
Emma Goewey stopped eight shots to earn the win in goal.
Third-seeded Mount Everett Wednesday in the semi-finals faces second-seeded Lenox, a winner over Ware on Monday night.
