Mount Everett Girls 'Run Out of Gas' in State Tourney Opener
WALPOLE, Mass. – Norfolk Aggie (15-1-3) scored twice in the second half Friday to earn a 2-0 win over Mount Everett in the preliminary round of the Division 5 State Tournament.
“To say it's been a crazy 48 hours would be an understatement,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “From winning Western Mass on Wednesday night in overtime, getting back to campus after midnight, and traveling two and half hours for today's game, we just ran out of gas. The sad part is we outplayed them by outshooting them 25-10 with seven corners, but we just couldn't find a way today to score some goals.”
Emma Goewey stopped eight shots for the Eagles, who finish the season 11-5-4.
“With all that is happening, though, I am super proud of these girls, their effort, intensity, and willingness to continue showing up and playing their hearts out,” King said. “We unfortunately have to say goodbye to four quality seniors and leaders in Emma, Maggy, May, and Julianna and start the process of getting ready for next year.”
