Norfolk Aggie Wins State Voc Final at McCann Tech

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Norfolk Aggie scored three times in the first half Wednesday to hand the McCann Tech girls soccer team a 3-0 loss in the championship game of the State Vocational Small School tournament.
 
Fourth-seeded Norfolk established its dominating play and scored all the goals it needed in the first half against McCann (14-5)
 
The visitors  got on the board first in the in the 13th minute when a midfielder netted a score from 25 yards away. Then in the 21st minute, another Norfolk goal came from a deflection off of a McCann defender.
 
McCann rallied but missed wide on the attempt.
 
Norfolk stretched the lead to three at the end of the first. In the 34th minute a Norfolk striker converted a breakaway chance to make it 3-0 at half-time. 
 
In the second half, both teams came out playing stronger defense. While Norfolk had some tremendous opportunties, Alanza Quinones (15 saves) and the McCann defense kept the margin at three.
 
“We lost almost all of the 50/50 balls,” McCann coach Mike Dowling said. “They beat us to most of the balls, but i’m not nocking our effort or heart, Norfolk was just a little faster they we were.” 
 
“I am tremendously proud of these girls. They played extremely hard.” .
 
The Hornets’ season will continue on Monday when they travel to Huntington to take on Gateway Regional in the quarter-finals of the Western Mass Division 4 Championships.
